Industrial Boulevard to Ferry Terminal
Project No. 0933051/SFHWY00481
This project will design and construct a chip seal overlay on Glacier Highway, between Auke Lake & the AMHS Ferry Terminal in Auke Bay.
This project includes subbase and pavement repair, chip seal, seal coating, guardrail replacement, and road painting activities.
Motorists, residents, pedestrians, bicyclists, and businesses should expect intermittent construction activity. Expect delays of up to 5 minutes, or 10 minutes during paving activities. A reduced 35 MPH speed limit, with double work zone fines, will be implemented prior to AST paving activities, and for 72 hours following each chip seal and seal coat application. Bicyclists and pedestrians should watch for directions from signage and flaggers.
Construction began April 27, 2026, and will continue through August 30, 2026.
Work will occur intermittently along Glacier Highway from the Auke Lake parking area to the Ferry Terminal. Current construction activities include chip sealing, seal coating, and pavement repairs.
Traffic control will include permanent construction signage, double lane shifts, and single lane closures. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians should expect lane closures, construction signs, heavy equipment usage, and flaggers through work zones. Watch for construction signs, heavy equipment, and flaggers.
Motorists, residents, and businesses should expect intermittent construction activity, delays up to ten minutes, and altered traffic patterns. Bicyclists and pedestrians should watch for directions from signage and flaggers.
We understand that recent chip seal work has caused dust and travel concerns, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we complete this process.
Recently placed chip seal requires approximately 72 hours to properly cure before final sweeping can occur. During this curing period, our ability to control dust is limited. Applying too much water can damage the new chip seal before the surface is fully stabilized. SECON is actively working to manage the situation by sweeping the roadway every 12 hours, and applying water as often as possible without damaging the new chip seal surface.
How you can help: Please follow the posted 35 MPH speed limit through the work zone. Slower speeds reduce dust levels and help protect the newly placed surface.
We recognize the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to complete this project as safely and efficiently as possible.
